
Every now and then, an urban legend turns out to be true, and Oregon has one of the funniest of them all: the tale of the exploding whale.
In 1970, a beached whale died on the Oregon coast. How did they get the eight ton whale off the beach? They used equal parts of dynamite and poor judgment. Here's the original news report, by Paul Linnman (then of KATU News. Today, he hosts morning drive on 1190 KEX):
