That Makes Your Eyes Glitter

The thing that makes your eyes glitter isn't always gold dust. So says Justin Currie, anyway. Gold Dust is track #8 on this week's Jalpuna Radio playlist. It's a superb track from an album he released last year that I completely missed. I found it on iTunes recently and have been absolutely hooked.

  8. Gold Dust | Justin Currie

  10. The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot | Brand New
  11. When Your Mind's Made Up | The Frames

The real gem this week is "Your New Twin Size Bed" by Death Cab. The lyrics are superb - but they're also really sad.

You look so defeated lying there in your new twin size bed.
With a single pillow underneath your single head.
I guess you decided that that old queen holds more space than you would need.
Now it's in the alley behind your apartment with a sign that says it's free.
And I hope you have more luck with this than me.

...I love it - but oh what a picture that one paints.

Uhm... WHAT?!

She said "I like reading the women seeking women ads on Craigslist," and I looked at her with a curious gaze. This was a first date, and since I'd already decided that there would not be a second, I let the awkward silence that followed hang to see what would happen next.

And it did hang.

It hung like laundry on a clothes line in the middle of January.

And then she continued.

"I'm not gay or bi or anything, I just like reading them. I'm just curious, you know? I mean, everybody's curious. You're curious aren't you? Because I sure am! I mean, I'm not. like, interested in women at all. I mean, I like women, but I don't like women like that, you know? I've never been interested in a woman in that way. Well, ok, that's not, like, completely 100% true because, you know, there was this one girl. She worked at that weird books and music store on 23rd. Every time I'd see her I'd get all nervous and stuff, you know? And I didn't know why, and then one day I saw like "Oh my god! I think I've got a crush on her! Bu she's a girl! Do I like girls?" So I thought, you know, maybe I needed to open myself to the idea of being with a woman, because if I was interested in that girl, maybe I was interested in other girls, you know, like, maybe I wasn't just into men, so then I started going to these bi-curious parties, but I never, like, made out with anybody. Not any of the women anyway. Not that I wouldn't make out with a woman. I mean, I guess it'd be fun and stuff, but I wouldn't want to do anything more than that, you know?"

Wow.

"Oh god! You must think I'm a total freak or something!"

Me? Noooo...
